PINATATAKDA ng petsa ni Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas ang Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) para bayaran ang utang nito sa Philippine Red Cross o PRC.

Ito ay sa harap na rin ng pagdami ng mga overseas Filipino workers o OFW na natetenga ngayon sa Metro Manila dahil sa delay sa pagkuha ng resulta sa COVID-19 testing.

Giit ni Vargas, dapat magtakda rin ng gentleman’s agreement ang PhilHealth sa PRC para matukoy kung paano mababayaran ang aabot sa P1-bilyong pagkakautang nito.

“PhilHealth should come up with a gentleman’s agreement with PRC on how it will settle its debt,” ani Vargas.

Giit ni Vargas na dapat ipakita ng Red Cross sa PhilHealth na may kapabilidad itong bayaran ang utang kaya dapat magtakda na ng petsa para dito.

Punto pa ng mambabatas, may rason ang PRC kung bakit nito inihinto ang pagsasagawa ng COVID test at maaari naman aniyang magkaroon ng compromised agreement ang dalawang opisina.

“PhilHealth should show the Red Cross it is capable of paying its debt by drawing up an agreement where the date of payment is set. I believe Red Cross officials are reasonable. They can arrive at a compromise with PhilHealth.”

Samantala, giit ni Vargas na dapat nang aksyunan ito ng pamahalaan dahil sa dami ng mga uuwing overseas Filipinos sa bansa ngayong taon.

“This is a time-sensitive issue. We already have thousands of OFWs in our quarantine facilities and DOLE says about 100,000 more of our kababayans are expected to return to the country this year. We shouldn’t allow our quarantine facilities to be overwhelmed” dagdag pa ni Vargas.

Nauna nang sinabi ni Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III na nasa 6,000 returning OFWs ang natengga ngayon sa mga quarantine facilities sa Metro Manila mula Oktubre a-15 matapos ipahinto ng PRC ang COVID-19 testing para sa gobyerno.

Ani Bello, nasa 1-2 araw lamang ang tagal ng resulta noong PRC pa ang in charge sa RT-PCR test.
