Cabagan town in Isabela has tapped and availed of the technical intervention assistance of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Cagayan Valley Regiona Office (RO-2) in the implementation of Food and Safety Standards under its Food Grading System Ordinance.
DOST-RO2 Regional Director Sancho A. Mabborang lauded the Cabagan initiative which he said is called for necessary since the Isabela town is the source of a number of native delicacies topped by the widely popular Pancit Cabagan.
Maborang highlighted the need to maintain the food safety in Cabagan and the integration of, and adoption by Smarter MSMEs (micro-, small and medium enterprises) of the e-payment system by food processors and food handlers to avoid actual contact with paper bills that might be carriers of virus and microorganisms.
Through its Cagayan Valley Food Safety Team (CVFST), DOST-RO2 has committed to assist the Cabagan municipal government by providing training-workshops for its Municipal Health Office (MHO) staff on the assessment and evaluation of food MSME processors and establishments as well as seminars on Food Safety Awareness among restaurant owners, food firms, and ambulant vendors.
The collaboration between DOST RO2 and Cabagan has already been activated.
