NATAPOS na ang paghahari nina Cristiano Ronaldo ng Juvetus Football Club at Lionel Messi ng Spanish club Barcelona matapos tanghalin bilang player of the year ng FIFA si Luka Modric ng Real Madrid.
Taong 2007 nang may huling nanalo ng titulong ito bukod kina Ronaldo at Messi.
Naungusan ng Croatian midfielder na si Modric sina Ronaldo at Mohamed Salah ng Liverpool FC.
“It’s a great honour and a beautiful feeling to stand here with this trophy,” wika ni Modric.
Hindi naman sumipot sa seremonya si Ronaldo at Messi na ginanap sa Grimaldi Forum, Monaco.
“I would like to give congratulations to Mohamed and Cristiano for the great season that they had. I am sure in the future you will have another opportunity to fight for this,” ani Modric para sa kalaban niya sa parangal.
Iniwasan naman nito ang diskusyon sa usap-usapang karapat-dapat ba siya sa parangal. Aniya, hindi ito makikipag-debate ukol sa isyu bagkus ay nagpapasalamat ito sa lahat ng bumoto at sumuporta sa kaniya.
Pinasalamatan din niya ang kanyang koponan at pamilya. “This trophy is not just mine. It is for my Real Madrid team-mates, the Croatia national team and all my coaches. This is also for my family, without whom I would not be the player I am,” sabi nito.
“Everyone has their own reasons. Obviously I would have liked them to be here but they aren’t, wika ni Luka.
Ayon naman sa kakampi nito sa Real Madrid na si Sergio Ramos, karapat-dapat ito sa nakuhang parangal.
“I am as happy as if I had won it. (Modric) deserves it, he is an excellent player and has marked an important era in the history of Real Madrid,” aniya.

“It’s not easy to stop Modrić because he’s such a clever player, he can read the game so well and can play in many different areas.” wika ni José Mourinho dating Madrid manager.
